AG exhibited copies of judgments, orders in contempt case against PM

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General of Pakistan Molvi Anwarul Haq on Wednesday submitted before the Supreme Court certified copies of judicial verdicts and orders in support of contempt charges framed against the Prime Minister in NRO implementation issue.
Appearing before a seven-member bench headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk in contempt of Court issue against the Prime Minister, the Attorney General submitted four volumes of judgments and orders passed by the Supreme Court from time to time for implementation of NRO verdict.
The Attorney General also recorded his statement by saying "In support of charges framed against the respondent, I tender the certified copies of judgments and orders passed from time to time regarding para 178 of Dr Mobashar Hassan vs Federation judgment."
After exhibition of his documents, the bench enquired from barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for PM, about his contentions.
Aitzaz Ahsan said that he reserved the right to raise objections if further evidences were produced by the attorney general.
He said after completion of evidences, he reserved the right to defense, however, he would consult his client and seek his instructions about submission of evidences and defense.
He further apprised the bench that his client might go through the whole evidences as these were not in his notice.
To bench's query, he replied that on February 28, he would put forward his submission of evidences.
The bench also dismissed an application of Shahid Orakzai, a freelance journalist, by maintaining objections of the Registrar office.
The bench observed in its order that the petition was not maintainable. Further hearing was adjourned till February 28 while Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for the Prime Minister would submit his evidences and defense with the Registrar office on February 27.
